Contemporary floral art
Flowers have been a common theme in art throughout its history. Today they continue to be popular subjects for artists in their framed contemporary flower art. Flower paintings remind people of a connection to the natural world. For this reason, many art admirers like to have such artwork in their collections.
Artists who make framed contemporary flower art on canvas draw their inspiration from artists representing a wide variety of styles and time periods. Georgia O’Keeffe’s “Blue and Green Music” and “3 Zinnias” are just two of the many flower paintings she created in her long respected career. Entries in Claude Monet’s “Water Lilies” series hang in top art galleries and are among the most recognized paintings in the world.
Artists incorporate the influences of various approaches in their framed contemporary flower art pieces. For instance, some artists like to use a photorealistic approach that can remind the viewer of classic Renaissance still life paintings. Others prefer a more abstract approach where the viewer can put together simple shapes to arrive at a representation of a flower. Bulgarian-American artist Silvia Vassileva likes to play with color in her flower paintings such as “Summer Floral V.” The bold color choices lend the work a vibrant, surreal quality reminiscent of Fauvist painters such as Henri Matisse.
One thing that can affect the appearance of framed contemporary flower art paintings is the choice of medium. Olga Shvartsur uses the blurry edges inherent in watercolor painting to give her paintings a dreamy look. Some artists work with oil, which gives the painting a heavier, more opaque style. Lisa Kesler paints with acrylic and combines the flowers in her paintings with images of Midwestern rural life.
