Framed Small Abstract Art
When one thinks of abstract art, images of Jackson Pollock’s Convergence or Mark Rothko’s Rust and Blue spring to mind. These large, bold designs can wow an audience, drawing them in with their almost-eccentric use of colour and geometric designs. However, abstract art doesn’t have to be used solely for a knockout effect. Framed small size abstract art is just as important in the world of design, allowing a more intimate look at not only the artist’s personality but also that of the presenter.
The pioneers of abstract art in its purest form, Kazimir Malevich and Piet Mondrian, laid the basis of an art form, which is not attempting to accurately portray the world around us. Through the use of geometric shapes, bold lines and sharply contrasting colours, Malevich, Mondrian and their followers introduced use to a world where art relies much more on what the artist feels rather than what he or she sees. A fine example of this form in framed small size abstract art piece is the Unity series by Julie Havel.
Abstract art has branched out and formed many other branches or styles, such as cubism, rayonism and minimalism. As with many forms of art, there are blurred lines between a lot of these styles, many artists choosing not to be boxed into one category or another. Joel Holsinger, for example, concentrates more on the importance of high-quality materials than on which style he paints in. This has allowed him to create such framed small size abstract art piece work as the Day Before series, along with a wide range of designs using watercolour, acrylics and oil.
Many may feel that framed small size abstract photography isn’t for them – that it is for the art historian to analyse and describe these piece. However, if the time is taken simply to enjoy the art for art’s sake rather than dwelling on its style then there is something for everyone. For example, the Lillian series by Simon Addyman may fall in to the category of abstract art, but it also evokes the same emotions as many a piece, be it contemporary, impressionism or folk art.
