The hummingbird is one of the smallest birds in the world which is known by the humming sound that it creates by flapping its wings at intense speeds.
It can hover in the air while flying and its wings can move at around 50 times per second. It can also achieve incredible speeds and it can pass more than 15 meters in one second. The hummingbird species are speculated to be more than 40 million years old. Their metabolism and oxygen consumption is so high, that if they don’t feed for a few hours, they can die of starvation. Hummingbirds live from 3 to 5 years on average, but some of them can reach up to 10 years of age.
Many different species of hummingbirds have different and exotic colors on them, and that comes from prism-like cells on the top layer of their feathers.
