Framed Hippo Artwork
Hippos are probably Africa's most famous animals. They have blue-grey skin, live in the water, eat mostly plants, and have very large teeth, which are displayed when a hippo yawns.
Although hippos are dangerous creatures, they also have a very fun side with artists who portray them as purple, round creatures with a friendly smile. There are many artists who enjoy drawing them as fun cartoons for framed hippo art.
Chariklia Zarris has created a very simple framed artwork of a hippo with a bird that they entitled “Best Friends: Hippo.” The hippo is drawn in blue with only a hole for an eye. Its rounded, solid-colour shape is very soft, and suggests a friendly animal that has no sense of danger at all. On top of it is a purple bird, which is also drawn as a solid-colour shape. The title “Best Friends” seems to suggest the helping relationship between the hippo and the birds that keep its skin free of insects. It is an endearing picture of a lasting friendship between two different species.
The framed hippo cartoon of “Romeo and Hippoet” by Serena Bowman is a humorous watercolour that portrays the love between a hippo and a giraffe. It imitates the famous balcony scene from the Shakespeare play where Romeo and Juliet declare their love to each other. Giraffe-Romeo is extending his paw to Hippoet, who is clasping her hands like a girl in love.
Kate Mawdsley has a humorous purple hippo who exudes a lot of character in his eyes in “Henry”. Another fun one by Serena Bowman, “Groovy Hippo,” shows a very cute hippopotamus against a “flower power” background. Framed cartoons of hippos are a great way to enjoy the African hippo.
