Framed Vintage Red Cross Art
Framed vintage Red Cross posters stem from the popular International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, a worldwide humanitarian movement with nearly 100 million volunteers, staff, and members across the globe.
Jean-Henri Dunant initiated the creation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) after touring the battlefield of Solferino, Algeria, in 1859. Artwork of Red Cross nurses aiding wounded soldiers, etc., became especially popular during World War I and World War II.
John Parrot/Stocktrek Images is by far one of the most famous artists of framed vintage Red Cross poster art. Pieces like “Be a Cadet Nurse” remind war veterans of their past, with its vintage images of pin-up style nurses. Its vibrant, retro feel appeals to younger generations, too, though—especially with its unique mix of fonts and authentic text, such as “A Lifetime Education FREE for High School Graduates Who Qualify.”
Advertisements are also great candidates for framed vintage Red Cross art pieces. “Nurses of America” is a simple ad employing merely text and a giant red cross in the center to get its message across: “humanity calls you—what is your answer?” The piece is surrounded by a matching red border, and urges viewers to “enroll now with the American Red Cross for Army or Navy service.” Another famous ad, “Red Cross Nurse,” doesn’t contain text at all, but instead displays a Red Cross nurse in front of a marching troop of soldiers. Her right arm is outstretched, beckoning those viewing the advertisement to join her.
Framed vintage Red Cross artwork is great for a variety of art lovers, whether you love vintage prints with a retro vibe, pieces containing a historical factor to them, or just want something that showcases your love for the Red Cross, war, and/or your country.
