Winter Wall Art
Love it or loathe it, when it comes to winter, people usually fall in one camp or the other. For some winter is a dreary, cold time when you’re constantly looking over your shoulder for the dreaded flu. For others it’s all about rugging up and sitting by the fire, holidays and spending time with family and once the snow hits there’s even more to love about winter. All this and more is captured perfectly in framed winter art
Winter is synonymous with Christmas time. Snow in yards and fields ready for making snow men and snow angels, reindeer and rides on horse-drawn sleighs, presents and streets lined with decorated houses. Perhaps a favourite of framed winter Christmas art are the whimsical scenes of Jane Wooster Scott such as ‘Spirited Sprites’, ‘Cold Hands Warm Hearts’ and ‘Candlelight and Moonlight’.
While many winter artworks showcase the harshness and severity of the winter by depicting empty landscapes and leaf-less trees, there are some pieces which show how life goes on. Framed winter animal art shows that on farms there are still horses and cows like Peter Sculthorpe’s ‘Huff Church Road’ and deer and wolves in the woods such as Edward J. Bierly’s ‘Early Snow’ and Michelle Mara’s ‘Winter Wolves’.
For a different take on traditional western winter art there are wintertime settings based in the east in framed Japan winter art. One notable artist here is Utagawa Hiroshige, an artist well known for his Ukiyo-e art, or woodblock prints or paintings. Notable wintertime scenes include ‘View of Mount Haruna in the Snow’ and ‘Women in the Snow at Fujisawa’.
