Framed American Maps
North America is not “North America” to its citizens. It is “United States of America,” “America,” or “USA.” Americans are very proud of their country, for its concept of freedom , Route 66, inventions, famous people, famous Presidents, food, diversity, and much, much more. This is explored in framed USA maps.
“Retro Roadtrip I” by James Nocito is a framed map of USA that highlights the famous Route 66, which was a highway which gave the drivers a spectacular view of the landforms that America has to offer, starting from Chicago, and going to Hollywood. The desert is represented by the lone Saguaro cactus that is on top of Texas. The independent American spirit is represented by the cowboy on his horse.
A different medium used is in the framed marquetry map of USA in “USA Modern Vintage Wood” by Michael Mullen. It uses the regular map, but in pieces of dyed wood to represent all 50 States. Woodcraft is a popular hobby in America, and marquetry, or the laying of dyed wood tiles to make art, is making a revival. This one would be nice for the woodworker.
There are licensed plates for each state. You get to see all of them in “USA Map II” by Aaron Foster. Every state name is shown on a license plate. Wyoming is represented by a cowboy. Each state has its own colour as well, making the license plates symbolic of diversity.
