Framed Van Gogh Starry Night Paintings
Framed van Gogh Starry Night art highlights painter Vincent van Gogh’s most famous work, “Starry Night.” It not only includes different sizes and close-ups of the painting, but also includes an earlier piece, “Starry Night over the Rhone.” “Starry Night over the Rhone” was created in September 1888, while “Starry Night” was done almost a year later, in June 1889.
Van Gogh’s framed van Gogh Starry Night artwork “Starry Night” was painted during the time the Dutch post-impressionist artist was in an asylum in Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France. It has been part of the permanent collection in New York City’s Museum of Modern Art since 1941. The painting depicts the view from the asylum room’s east-facing window before sunrise; the artist added a fictitious village as well. It was acquired through the Lillie P. Bequest and is thought to be one of Van Gogh’s finest works of art. The painting is also one of the most recognized historical pieces of Western culture.
Vincent van Gogh volunteered himself for admission to the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum on May 8, 1889, after his December 1888 mental breakdown that led to him cutting off his left ear. Van Gogh created many famous works in his ground-floor studio at the asylum (his bedroom was on the second floor), including the two framed van Gogh Starry Night art pieces mentioned previously. “Starry Night” is the only nocturne—or painting of a twilight/night scene—Van Gogh made in his series of artwork illustrating views from his bedroom window.
“Starry Night over the Rhone” was painted prior to Van Gogh’s stay at the asylum, when he lived in the famous Yellow House on the Place Lamartine in Arles. The scene is of the east side of the Rhone River, which was just a one- or two-minute walk from where Van Gogh’s house was.
