Kate Larsson was born in Tacoma, WA. She is a self-taught artist who is fond of watercolors. She moved to and lived in Gothenburg, Sweden for 9 years. She studied at Gothenburg University and traveled throughout Europe. She visited museums in France, England, Turkey, Portugal, Greece, Russia and Germany. All these visits inspired her work. Her favorite art is from the Impressionist and Fauvist periods which are reflected in her own unique style. Kate starts by doing a detailed drawing in pencil before she begins to apply the watercolors working over the entire piece, one section at a time. She waits for the first application of watercolor to dry then she applies another coat. She repeats this process until she has applied 5 to 8 layers of color. Kate’s artistic goal is to create art pieces that reflect the marvelous beauty and colors of everyday objects. Her favorite subjects include Italian flowers, pottery, landscapes s, and dragonflies. She represents all these in graphic and bold style with a touch of whimsy. When she finishes an original, she always takes a digital picture so that she is able to reproduce the image onto coasters, tiles, mouse pads and cutting boards using a process called dye sublimation. The most common thing that people say about her colorful work is that it makes them happy. That’s the reason behind the many framed Kate Larsson art that are found in many institutions and even in private homes. Kate owns the Gig Harbor Studio where she also prints her own Giclee reproductions on watercolor paper.
