Alan Klug is a photographer who was born in Oakland, California. His father was a U.S. Navy submarine officer during World War II, so the family moved regularly, and this made Klug to develop a lifelong travel habit. In 1968 Klug obtained an M.A. from the University of Colorado which he attended on a poetry scholarship. He then taught English at the university level for many years. After seeing Klug’s harmonious, picturesque photographs, which decorate the wall of the Boulder Arts & Crafts Gallery, one would want to travel to Europe for the first time or be overwhelmed with nostalgia for the trips they have taken in the past. One would actually be determined to see those brilliant window boxes for themselves or they’ll remember that bicycle by the painted blue door and want to revisit. The viewer might end up buying a photograph to take home because of its balance, serenity, and sense of color. Klug took up painting while he was still in college. He began making serious photographs seriously in 1979 and has been a full-time professional photographer since then. Klug says that he’s not much interested in nature photography or in making pictures of people; but he rather wishes to discuss the artifacts of Western civilization photographically. His work is in part documentary, since he believes a good deal of what is unique in their civilization is being lost to a homogenization of culture. So it is in order to have a view of the way it was before. That’s why framed Alan Klug art are very popular with many collectors.
