Britt Hallowell’s paintings are typically metaphoric in nature with themes such as trees and animals. She attempts to create energy in her pieces through splatter, textures or color. She uses multiple types of plaster in each painting and she layers them over several days. She loves working with color and textures because they allow her to create minimalist designs with bold colors that are very intricate and yet simple in their nature. She’s a self-taught artist and that’s how she prefers it. She says that she wanted to learn by herself. She uses a mixture of oil pastels plasters, paints and charcoal to create heavy textures in each of her paintings.
