Amy Dixon (Born in 1959) was born and raised in Monroe, Louisiana. She gets her inspiration from paying attention to the moment and to the little details that are often ignored by many artists. Along with her painting, Amy is also an author and two of her books have been published by Pelican Publishing Co. Her art can be found in many corporate and private collections and galleries around the world. They can also be found in many art stores in the form of framed Amy Dixon art. She studied at Newcomb College of Tulane University from where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art & Painting in 1981. Her Post-graduate Study took place from 1981 to 1982 at the Studio Arts Center International, in Florence, Italy. She also studied in workshops in New York with Wolf Kahn. While in Denver she attended Workshop and classes with Kim English. She now lives in Denver with her 3 children. Amy’s work is about immediacy, color and an instinctive response to the world around her. She draws inspiration from recognizing ideas that connect with the soul such as form, color, light, mood, conversation, music and dreams. The artist approaches painting much as she approaches life...with a lot of keenness, intuitively and with free expression. She says that anything is possible if the art spirit is right. A keen sense of what will work on canvas and direct observation of everyday life fuel her passion for revisiting old favorites as well as exploring fresh subjects. Her personal journey challenges her to investigate harmony, fears, peace, laughter, chaos and stress of the day... to divulge and paint in response to this life and all its complexities.
