Michael Cassidy was born in a small town just north of San Diego, California. Combining a 20-year career in commercial illustration, natural talent, a perfectionist’s work ethic, and 7 years in art school, and with the finest materials, he, nonetheless, believes that his paintings are a pale imitation of what God has gifted mankind with. Cassidy is the product of a 20th Century social anomaly which came to be known as the Surf Generation. It was centered largely in the Southern California area in the 1960's. Surfing became a way of life and it was more than just a sport; it produced its own unique perspective. Over the years, the artist’s credentials have grown to include a very impressive list of clients, including Sports Illustrated; the PGA; Harcourt -Brace-Jovanivich; McGraw/Hill; and Henry Hout; the Chicago Tribune; Golf Magazine; Patagonia, Inc.; The Discovery Channel; Adolf Coors; Seagrams; and many more. Through his surfing expeditions, he has also gone on to explore and discover extreme parts of the world about which many will only wonder - Panama, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Bora Bora, Raiatea, Moorea, Tahititi, to name a few. He earned his education the hard way, spending 3 years at Palomar College in Southern California in the fine art/commercial art program, followed by 2 years in the Illustration Program at California State University at Long Beach. At the end of the two years, he returned to Palomar for 2 more years taking painting and life drawing classes. That’s not all; he spent the next several years in various assignments related to art; such as advertising design, commercial illustration, photography, poster design, and magazine work. Today, framed Michael Cassidy art are used for decorative purposes in many buildings around the world.
