Framed Watermelon Artwork
Hot summery days, picnics, juice dribbling down your chin as you bite into a wedge of watermelon. We can all appreciate how the simple image of a framed watermelon artwork hanging on our wall can remind us of holidays and fun, of long days spent in joyful pursuit, of warm nights and time spent with family and friends.
The most simplest of framed watermelon prints would be by Jace Grey who captured the whole melon as well as several segments in the piece “Watermelons”. The artist then played with cartoon and print effects in “Watermelon Seeds Pattern” as well as words in the artwork such as “Delicious Watermelons – Pink”.
Darlene McElroy was able to capture those hot summers in her framed watermelon painting “Juicy”. The piece features two ladies sitting at a shady table, a watermelon between them and the distinct pattern of the watermelon skin around them with segments of the fruit in the foreground, including a half eaten piece. Kate McCrostie also captured the hot summer days in her piece “Shrimp Fest”, a still life that features a big bowl of shrimp, a blue glass bottle and a big red juicy segment of watermelon.
Other framed watermelon still life include “Still Life with Melons and Peaches” by Edouard Manet. Here the artist has the fruit laid out of a table with both black and white cloth, forming a great contrast of a neutral background and vibrant subject. For those that prefer something more simple Johann Wilhelm Weinmann created two botanical prints “Antique Melons I” and “Antique Melons II” that have detailed depictions of the fruit laid out on a white background.
