Framed Sandal Prints
Flip-flops are a popular summer tradition once a year in hot weather. You give up your pricey sports shoes to wear cheap, mass-produced that you have to grip with your toes to keep on as you run through the sand. The come in many colours. They represent much framed sandal art as spring turns into summer for many people.
“Framed Flipflop Beach I” by Paul Brent is a framed sandal painting which uses vertical lines as a motif. There are the white slats of a fence, which make for a sequential view of the boat, separating the background scene into like a comic strip. The six colourful flip-flops that are lined up below unify the piece, and look like they're being stored while their owners play beach volleyball.
A painting that blends together the East and West is Mary Naylor's series of themed sandals, with “Napa Thongs” being one example of her framed flip-flop art. The shoe pictured resembles a Japanese clog sandal, with thick toe straps and having the same colour of deep red. Instead of a Japanese pattern, are grapes, tomatoes, and wine, representing the fertile Napa Valley in California.
A second piece of framed flip-flop art by Paul Brent is “Orange Flip Flops”. It is quite detailed, and uses the vertical lines motif again on the beach towel. There are two flip-flops that their wearer had simply left. Their orange colour is inviting and energetic. They represent the pinnacle of summer fun.
