Framed Viking Artwork

Viking art, which is also known as Norse art, is a style of art related to the Vikings that lived on Scandinavian territory from 8th to 11th century. This art style has different combinations of Celtic, Germanic and Eastern European style. Vikings were living on Scandinavian ground and were farmers, raiders and traders. They had longships that were used for invasion of rich areas near the European coast. They also had trade routes and have explored a lot. There is evidence that Vikings reached America much before Christopher Columbus. The arts that they preferred were carving of different materials: stone, metal, wood, bone and ivory. Wood carving was most widespread because wood was a plentiful resource in Scandinavian territory.
Viking were a democratic society, and their democracy was even more developed than the one of ancient Athens, as Vikings allowed all the people to vote except slaves and outlaws. Their system of value was based on an honor code. All their activities were evaluated by the terms of honor. The character of an honorable Viking man is that he is generous and helping. They were also differentiated by classes which they got through their family heritage. Different styles of art were a result of their societal traditions. They carved pattern art on their boats and wooden structures, made metal jewelry and carved images into stones. If you are interested in Vikings and their lifestyle, getting a framed Viking art print is a great way to have a look and feel through the history of this impressive Nordic tribe.
