Only in the art world could something as simple as a knife because a glorious piece of art.
One of the first framed knife art paintings was done in 1500 by famous artist Hieroymus Bosch. This painting was titled “The Garden of Earthly Delights” which depicted severed ears with a knife. The interpretation of his painting has been two fold with some believing it a moral warning and others believing it to be the paradise of a lost soul. The severed ear with the knife is just a small portion of the entire, intricate painting.
Another very early painting in the area of framed knife artwork is “The Book” by Juan Gris. This painting shows a knife lying atop a book with different foods so it is presumed this is the cook book from which the chef is reading a recipe. This famous painting was completed in 1924 and is still sought after today.
More modern artists like Aimee Wilson and Pep Ventosa bring their modern touches to the field of knife art with pieces like “Knife” and “Modern Cooking”. Their styles are very contrasting to each other as one stays with basic black and white while the other likes to use bright colored backdrops.
