Paul Thompson’s work has developed around the externalisation of creations formed through navigating and mapping using the concepts of manipulating the real, and shifting between present, past, reality and memory. He says that he’s at the nucleus of a personal artistic construct, based on mixing and remixing, which he says is not merely responsive to his environment but is rather generative. His current work is based upon interventions and experiential journeys, generated through mixing and re-mixing from the motivation of the digital landscape. His art promotes the viewer’s engagement of his experience through proactive and passive engagements – inviting the viewer to join the experience and feel part of the art. Within his practice he adopts a hybrid approach of input and output mixing and remixing through digital mediation in examination of the boundaries of the temporal and the physical. The digital process and product provides a cornerstone in his practice both practically and contextually. Within this process and practice the surface plays a critical part in the product, going beyond merely a ground or support either physical or digital. He has exhibited his art in several locations including Indelible Traces Members Edinburgh Printmakers, NEO Studio Gallery Bolton, Staff Exhibition Forth Valley College, Grays School of Art Degree Show, Camberwell College of the Arts, Colors Gallery Edinburgh, Vas Dundas St Edinburgh, The Affordable Art Fair London, The Atholl Gallery Dunkeld, and The Leith Gallery Edinburgh, among others. These exhibitions have popularized the framed Paul Thompson art to an extent that they are found in many stores around the world.
