Bill Mead is an artist whose work is shown in galleries in Atlanta, GA, Beaufortand Charleston, SC, and Washington, DC. He studied at the Atlanta College of Art and the Maryland Institute College of Art. In 1985, Mead built a home on Lady's Island, South Carolina and has been making art there ever since. His imaginative work is widely collected and reflects his incomparable appreciation for the natural beauty and charm of the low country. Mead says that imagination is what makes life worth living. He never found reality all that interesting. His brain is always trying to figure out what’s real and what isn’t. So, for him, making art is a means of escape from wearisome labor and a great one of course. When he turned 50 he realized half the things he used to worry about didn't really matter and the other half didn’t even exist. Reality and his perception of it was never the same thing. Today, his art give him a chance to contrast reality and perception. He believes that Beaufort is surrounded by some of the world’s most beautiful landscapes. The colors there are subtle, rich browns and deep dark greens. Cucumbers and tomatoes grow there in abundance. His paintings are basically still life and landscape combined… an attempt to merge the sensual with the spiritual. This style is what makes his art to be so popular, especially the framed Bill Mead art. His art has been exhibited in several galleries including, among others, Woodstock Artist Association and Museum, Woodstock, Windham Fine Arts, Windham, Albert Merola Gallery, Provincetown, and Clark Gallery, Lincoln.
