Framed Fountain Artwork
Back in the day, people relied almost exclusively on wells to provide drinking water, while fountains served a decorative purpose. They used to beautify the Roman cities and not surprisingly the word comes from Latin, as cities across the empire were littered with fountains.
The best images of these fountains are available at FramedArt.com, with Framed Fountain Art including paintings, posters and drawings.
The Romans made good use of aqueducts to connect fountains so they also served a functional purpose, with people using the water for drinking, washing or bathing. For centuries they operated solely on gravity and it was essential for the water source to be located higher than the fountain. Technology changed all that and also granted constructors more flexibility, while allowing them to come up with innovative fountains that can now be admired in Framed Fountain Art.
Not only ancient Europeans, but also Asian, Muslims and Moors used fountains extensively, in an attempt of creating a setting resembling paradise. Perhaps the most famous ones are the fountains present in the Gardens of Versailles, built during the reign of King Louis XIV. The Framed Fountain Art celebrate their beauty, while also highlighting the similarities between their design and the ones constructed during the Roman Empire. Nowadays, when drinking water is provided by mechanical pumps, fountain serve only decorated purposes and technology allows them to spout water for hundreds of meters.
