Tom Wood (born 1955) was born in Dar es Salaam, Tanganyika. He loved art at a young age and today he is one of the leading artists in the UK. He is an artist in various media whose work is both figurative and abstract. In 1959, he moved to West Yorkshire where he studied at Batley School of Art Leeds Polytechnic, and at Sheffield School of Art. He graduated in 1978 and has since exhibited his artwork all over the world. Starting artwork at such a young age provided him with the means to continually refine his technique and the opportunity to learn a lot from other renowned artists. He has worked very hard and has landed some of the most competitive commissions in the UK. Some of his commissions include the portraits for Warwick University, the National Trust, and for the Harewood Trust.
Wood’s work is held by Leeds University, The National Portrait Gallery Print Collection, HRH The Prince of Wales, London Underground, and many provincial galleries. He has participated in solo exhibitions at Schloss Cappenberg, Kreiss Unna, Germany and the Yale Centre for British Art. His passion for art is reflected through all of his artworks. Wood has taken part in solo, two-man and group shows, which included shows at Lister Gallery, Bradford 1986, Dean Clough Contemporary Art Gallery, Halifax, HRH The Prince of Wales, Dean Clough, Agnew 1989, and at Wakefield Art Gallery 1990.
His images have been published on greeting cards, calendars, posters, and stationery around the world. All his images promise to inspire and delight all new artists and all who view them. Framed Tom Wood art are much sought after and are highly priced by many private and corporate collectors.
