Titan was born in Tiziano Vecellio (now Pieve di Cadore, Italy) His year of birth is not accurately known, but it was sometimes between 1488 and 1490. Titan was the oldest of four children born to Lucia Vecellio and Gregorio. He spent his early years in the town of Pieve di Cadore, near the Dolomite Mountains. Titan was a leading artist of the Italian Renaissance who painted works for King Philip of Spain, Pope Paul III, and the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. Titian became an artist's apprentice in Venice as a teenager between 1488 and 1490. He worked with Giorgione, Giovanni Bellini, and Sebastiano Zuccato before branching out on his own. Around 1518, Titian became one of Venice's leading artists with the completion of "Assumption of the Virgin."
In 1516, Titian began work on his first major commission for a church called Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari in Venice. He was known for his appealing renderings of the human form and for his deft use of color. After completing the "Assumption of the Virgin,” he created "The Worship of Venus" which was also a legendary altarpiece. This work was just one of several mythology-inspired works commissioned by Alfonso I d'Este. Titian managed to cultivate a broad range of royal patrons during his career.
Titian focused more on religious and mythological works. Titian died of the plague on August 27, 1576. Through the wealth of the works he left behind, he has inspired countless generations of artists including Antoon van Dyck, Rembrandt, Diego Velázquez, and Peter Paul Rubens. There are also some painters who were influenced his works. In case you want ready to mount framed Titian art, you can easily find them from diverse art dealerships and galleries.
