Wendy Russell was born in Toronto, Ontario. Like many artists she loved art from an early age and is primarily a self taught artist. Her husband was an Air Force officer. They lived with him in Alberta for 7 years before she moved with her children to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. She loved the beautiful sceneries of Nova Scotia and its inhabitants. These brought her passion for art to the surface. She loves doing something that she likes. Even in the lean months she knows that she’s blessed to be doing what she does. Wendy transforms the peaceful feelings and joy she gets from her children into her artwork. Her children, family and her environment are what influence the way she approaches a new piece. She works in acrylics but employs various artistic techniques to get high quality images. After 12 years in Nova Scotia, Wendy and her family relocated to Barrie, and then in the summer of 2010 they moved to Kanata, Ontario. Wendy enjoys the process of drawing and spending time developing the composition of each work. She has been influenced by the works of Georgia O'Keeffe, American artist, for her paintings of oversized flowers, as well as Lawren S. Harris, Canadian artist, for his bold depiction of the Canadian landscape. Framed Wendy Russell art are in private and corporate collections across the United States and Canada. She was a member of the Halifax Contemporary Art Society, the Dartmouth Visual Arts Society and the Barrie Art Club, and currently is a member of the Ottawa West Art Association.
