Based in Quito, Ecuador, Pete Oxford is a conservation photographer who was originally trained as a marine biologist. Today he and his wife work as a professional photographic team focusing primarily on indigenous cultures and wildlife. This British-born photographer is a founding fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers. In 1987 he also co-founded the Galapagos Naturalist Guide’s Association. He became a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society in 1992. As an ambassador for Gitzo Inspires, Oxford closely with the MarAlliance for marine conservation and the Orianne Society based in the United States. Oxford and Bish co-founded and operates the Focus Expeditions. Other members include Theo Allofs, the iLCP Fellow, and Jami Tarris, a photographer, leading photographic tours that focus on responsible travel. Oxford’s ten images have been featured in the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. He has received several awards including IUCN 'Man in Nature' Photographic Prize, Ecuadorian Photojournalist of the Year, the Ranger Rick Photographer of the Year Award, the IUCN Grant, and in 2010 the Outdoor Photography Magazine recognized him as one of the top forty Most Influential Nature Photographers in the world. Oxford is among the most active photographer in the history of the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year awards, where he took the 15th position. His images have appeared in many leading publications such as National Geographic Magazine.
