Vernon Kerr (Born 1938 – died 1982) came from an artistic background. His father published some poetry and was an architect, while his mother painted some beautiful florals in oil and was also was also an accomplished pianist. Vernon taught many classes in art in Idaho and in Southern California. He worked in his own gallery/studio for 12 years and then built another in Idaho at Coeur d'Alene, where he lived for 4 years with his four children and former wife. While in Mendocino, Kerr assembled a group of artists to participate in evening sessions on Thursdays. They were drawing from the live models. He was a very energetic and talented artist whose enthusiasm for the Laguna Beach and Festival of Arts seemed to be boundless. Despite his youth when he started practicing art, Kerr showed considerable maturity in his art - probably because he had been painting ever since he was a child and because his parents gave him every encouragement he needed. Even his years of military service did not have any negative effect on his goal of becoming an outstanding artist. Kerr became an illustrator for the Navy while he was serving in the United States Navy. At one time, Kerr was stationed in Japan where he rented a house to set up a studio to carry out his works of art. He sketched the country side and the Japanese people as much as possible. Today his art is available in many finishing options including framed Vernon Kerr art. He received numerous awards and honors for his still lifes, portraits and marines.
