Sandra Iafrate’s inspiration comes easily as it mostly rhymes with visual experiences in day to day life. Thoughts of something she found to be aesthetic or interesting will sit in her mind for months or years until she feels compelled to paint it out. She has lived and trained in Australia, USA and Canada but she was born in the Niagara Peninsula, Canada. She does have a propensity to be moved by comments, events or things which inspire her to recreate that mood through art. Sandra offers an annual workshop in Europe for one week each summer and occasionally teaches painting workshops. She studied journalism and writing at City University London, England, and Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, and over the past more than 2 decades, she has diverted her creative work to include visual arts. The artist felt that she had to learn to draw for a very long time in order for her to understand what she was seeing, so she could then abstract what she wanted while painting. Like all works of art, her inspiration comes from anecdotes of life, and this is mixed with her desire to share it with others and her constant technical quest to learn. Framed Sandra Iafrate art are a common sight in many homes and institutions around the world. In order for her to feel her painting is fresh and sincere, she will first paint and draw studies from real life if possible, but make her larger final work using no reference. She works on canvas taped to a wall or board or on un-stretched linen, so that she has no borders.
