Lucia Heffernan (Born 1966) was born in an artistic family in Taiwan. Her mother was a teacher and watercolor artist. Lucia was therefore inspired to draw and paint at a very early age by her mother. Her paintings reflect her love of animals and showcase her strength in graphic design. Her work is in the style of contemporary realism. She says that she wants to make the animals appear like they jump out from the canvas; but she also loves the energy from abstract paintings. Lucia often focuses in on the subject and creates an abstract background to enhance the focus. She graduated with honors from Binghamton University In the early 1990s after which she established an award winning creative design agency worth millions of dollars. In 2000 Lucia moved to Utah where her creative focus shifted from digital design to oil painting. Her latest metaphoric series of paintings use animals to portray the peculiar and delightful moments we encounter daily. The artist enjoys depicting the twists and turns that make life stories seem a little more interesting. She has won numerous local, regional and national competitions and her works, more so the framed Lucia Heffernan art, are widely collected in the western U.S. She’s a member of the Society of Animal Artists and Oil Painters of America. Like many artists, she began as a representational artist focusing on capturing her subjects down to the finest whisker, true to life. After developing a strong technical foundation, she evolved her style to incorporate a narrative. Lucia wants her viewers to recognize and relate to her subjects.
