Sam Dixon was born in Wichita Falls Texas. He spent his childhood in New York and New Jersey and studied art in Maryland. His talent was visible early on and as a young teenager, he began studying under well known artists in Maryland. Dixon was influenced by the paintings of Whistler. His art captures the essence of temperament and inspiration. His art often focuses on abstraction and shapes through a gestural approach. He grew up in an Air Force family, and had to move to two bases before he turned 6. That has served him well throughout his life; he believes it has made it easy for him to make friends and fit in. Dixon says when people look at his art he wants it to speak to them. He tries to stay away from all the political stuff. “Some of my colleagues may call me a sell-out, but I’m not interested in making a statement. I just want my art to make you feel good,” he says. Florida and Bendann Gallery in Towson, Maryland, Weatherburn Gallery in Naples, Canton Gallery in Baltimore, Broadway Gallery in Fairfax and Main Street Gallery in Annapolis, carry his work year round. It comes as a surprise that Dixon did not make a conscious decision to be an artist; it is art that came to him. Drawing at 3 years old and painting on the walls as a kindergarten, loving his every art project, are some of the things that kept him moving. Today, framed Sam Dixon art are in great demand.
