Francisco de Goya (March 30, 1746 – April 16, 1828) was a Spanish painter and illustrator whose artistic works consist of portraits and revolutionary pieces that were mainly released in the 1700s and beginning of 1800s. At about the age of 14, he joined Jose Luzan, a local painter, as an apprentice. After some time, his love for art grew, sending him to Italy to expand his artistic knowledge through formal studies. Goya later returned to Spain in 1771 and started painting frescoes using the rococo tradition. He later worked for a tapestry factory in Madrid from 1775 until 1792 where he mainly painted cartoons. The period became a defining moment in his artistic life, allowing him to capture the daily lives of the people around him. At the same time, he experienced a bit of influence from neoclassicism, a style that was fast rooting out the Rococo style. Goya made a name as a portrait painter and was in 1780 admitted to the Royal Academy of San Fernando. He was in 1786 named painter to the King and later selected as a court painter in 1789. Goya later fell ill and became deaf. At that point, he focused more on art making, defining a signature style almost similar to caricature. He's also known for his "The Naked Naja" painting that put him into trouble with the authorities. Goya would later capture the effects of the Napoleonic invasion and the independence of the Spanish. He captured these events in his Disasters of War series, but all of them weren’t published during his life. When the Spanish political system failed in the restoration of liberal government, he left for France in voluntary exile, working there till his death. Even after all the years, his art are still sought after and are available in galleries, collections and museums. Framed Francisco de Goya art pieces are quite famous for interior decoration.
