Susan Barmon studied photojournalism at The Portfolio Center in Atlanta, Ga. and Syracuse University School of Art. She studied with artist Dennis Carlyle Darling. She grew up in New York and has been telling stories most of her adult life through photographic portraiture. Susan’s career has encompassed editorial art direction and retail and location photography. In 2005, the photographer entered the digital world with her botanical scans. Her images are licensed and published, have been shown extensively, and are found as limited editions in private collections. The Botanical Scans began when Susan’s family’s circumstances required her to be home more and doing her portrait work less. When she was shown some work by a fellow photographer she was intrigued. The photographer was creating moving flowers while scanning them and Susan decided that this was the kind of thing she wanted to do. Susan had always felt that floral photography was “wanting” in some sense and she was inspired when she scanned the actual flowers and eliminated the camera. She was very much thrilled to see extraordinary detail in the scans. Susan uses black background for the flora arrangements because it helps her in bringing out all the details to make the subject pop. Susan’s art can be found in many collections, galleries and museums around the world. Over the years she has build a reputation and a huge following. Many clients like the ready to hang framed Susan Barmon art because they can be used to bring any room to life.
