Framed Vintage European Art
Ah, Europe. Is any other continent on Earth so instantly associated with class, culture, history, and Old World charm? Undoubtedly, Europe seems to be firmly intertwined within the public eye with all of those qualities, and many more. As the seat of art, commerce, culture, and political capitals of the world, it is no wonder that Europe is and always has been a focus of both art and advertisement. Framed vintage European posters bring together all of those qualities seamlessly in a manner both timeless and nostalgic.
French is among the European languages most strongly recognizable in its layout and impression of chic glamour. As a result, its placement on framed vintage European arts rarely even needs to be understood. Its existence alone is enough to guarantee associations of high class and refined taste. Such is the case with “Cote d’Azur,” a print by Jean-Gabriel Domerque that utilizes the language as a setting for a scene along the Azure Coast.
One of the most popular signature European events, the Gran Prix, is the subject of several framed vintage European art pieces, including “Gran Prix Monaco 30 mai 1965” and “Grand Prix of Monaco, 1956,” among others. The perceived glamour and competitive fan base of the racing tournament alone was likely enough to draw in tourism from all over the world, but these posters left nothing up to chance.
As a matter of fact, travel in general seems to be a dominant theme among framed vintage European poster art. The focus and admiration of the railways is evidenced in works such as “London – Paris Overnight Express” by Steve Forney, an ad for the “Orient Express, and “Panhard Lines 16 x 12” by G. Kow. Planes are at the center of “Euroair France” by Michael Kungl. And overall, a feeling of awe and admiration for the many ways in which seeing the world suddenly became possible all are remarkably evident in these works.
