Framed Crucifixion Art

The crucifixion of Jesus happened in the first century and the scene is widely regarded as one of the most important moments in Christian theology. Painters have immortalized the scene for centuries in artwork, with some of them also conveying a message of optimism as they were associated to the idea of salvation and atonement. Velazquez and Rembrandt both painted the scene and used the same name for their artwork, with Christ on the Cross being one of the best works of art belonging to this genre.
