Framed Clown Art
Nowadays, the thought of clowns is usually played off as an Internet joke, nothing more than a caricature that people pretend to fear in order to be “part of the group”. On the flip side, the art of clowning is seen more like learning childish tricks for pleasing equally childish children. However, when we look deep into the soul of the subject, we find something else. Many framed clown paintings have been made by artists, who realized this truth.
One of the most famous example of framed clown art must be “Pierrot” and “Portrait of a Harlequin” by the world renowned Pablo Picasso. Picasso was an established painter of his own time and the cofounder of Cubist art movement. This painting, which looks very different from his usual style of art, was drawn in 1918. This piece would probably give him inspiration of the cubic form of his subject of the same name.
Another framed clown fine art masterpiece is “Clown Cha-U-Kao” by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Lautrec was usually sick as a child was hence quite removed from society. This solitude however allowed him to develop his talent for art into genius. He played a very important figure in the post impressionist art movement. “La Clowness Looks Around, Madamoiselle Cha-U-Kao” is another one of his clown subjects, immortalized in paint.
Ancient civilizations knew that the character of the clown was a connection between the real and the surreal, the present follies and the harsh truth. A group that tries to keep this ethereal form in its true beauty is the French circus troupe Cirque du Soleil. As seen in the framed clown posters, the Cirque du Soleil tries to bring back the art in a modern form.
