Soft Northern Lights Colors
When decorating with light and tranquil northern light colors, put accents in the room that match the lighter colors in the palette. For example, framed art of a relaxing Northern Lights landscape would match perfectly with ghost white walls and an emerald green sofa or table. Since those are the main focal points of the room, they should complement the softness of the artwork by being the soft colors of the palette. If you also want to include the darker palette colors as well, try adding a small side table, vase or lamp so it doesn't take away the focus of the softer colors but rather complements them.
Intense Northern Lights Colors
If you like the more intense look of the northern lights, try the darker colors of the palette on major focal points of the room such as walls, couches and artwork. Although it seems like it'll be too overwhelming, using these darker colors really add a nice touch to the room. Since most of the room is dark, it leaves space to play with the smaller room accessories. For example, you can try adding lighter colored tables, lamps and carpets to balance out the feel of the room. To complete the look, you have freedom to choose darker colored art or a combination of the darker and lighter colors.
Balance of Colors
When decorating a room that you don't want to feel too intense or too calming, like a bedroom or office, try finding a balance of both colors. Using both soft and heavy colors of the northern lights palette creates the perfect color balance. Use white or neutral colors for the walls and furniture. This will allow the eye to focus on one point in the room so it does not become too overwhelming. When using both spectrums of the palette, this allows you to have more freedom when accenting the room. Let your inner creativity out and play around with different patterns and decor to add your personal touch and show your unique style.
