Federico Zuccaro (1540/1541 – 1609) was an Italian architect Mannerist and painter who was active both in Italy and abroad. He was born near Urbino at Sant' Angelo in Vado. It was in 1550 that his documented career as a painter began. That’s when he moved to Rome to work under his elder brother called Taddeo. Zuccaro went on to complete decorations for Pius IV, and also helped to complete the fresco decorations at the Villa Farnese at Caprarola. After the death of Titian he became the central figure of the Roman Mannerist School and probably the Europe’s best known painter. He was involved in many fresco projects in Rome and Venice including Oratorio del Gonfalone; Decoration of the Casina Pio IV; Pucci Chapel in the church of Trinità dei Monti; Grimani Chapel, San Francesco della Vigna; San Marcello al Corso; Dome of Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence; Cathedral of Orvieto, among others. Zuccaro was already working in the Vatican by the time he was 18. He used to paint various rooms for Pius IV. In 1565, he moved to Florence, where he worked under Giorgio Vasari, the architect, painter, and biographer, and codified the theory of Mannerism. After Taddeo’s death, Zuccaro completed some of his brother’s unfinished commissions, including in the Villa Farnese at San Lorenzo and at Caprarola, in the Sala Regia. His later commissions included the painting of a large work in the Palazzo Ducale at Venice, the Pauline Chapel in the Vatican, and the dome of Florence Cathedral. His printmaking expertise saw service on a variety of finishing options which including framed Federico Zuccaro art.
