Artist Richard Judson Zolan (1931 - 2001) was born in Chicago, IL. He was a strong adherent to the principles of American and European impressionism. He was a graduate of the prestigious Art Institute of Chicago and also studied in New York City’s famed Art Students League. He established himself as one of the most exceptional America’s painters of posters, art, and prints. Zolan was a student of Louis Rittman, his personal friend, an instructor, and a student of Monet for over twenty years. He quickly became Louis’ prized pupil because of his hard work and dedication. Louis taught Zolan the style and fundamental techniques of Impressionism. Zolan was always influenced by what he observed. He brought many new and textured mediums to mix with his great sense of spacing, light, and color. These allowed him to obtain the unique look on his artwork. Zolan was a talented designer with great insight to different eclectic multi-layering of textures, colors, and objects.
