Barbara Zaring (Born 1947) was born in Zanesville, Ohio, and raised in Cambridge, Ohio. She’s known for her elaborate oil paintings. She uses many layers of translucent paints to create new worlds that deal with opposing paradigms of contemporary life. Barbara has exhibited throughout the USA and in Guatemala in museums and galleries including the Museum of New Mexico, Santa Fe, The Philbrook Museum of Art, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the Eiteljorg Museum, Indianapolis. She derives imagery from her interior space that she has created through several years of dream work and meditation practice. Barbara is published in more than 10 books and has done cover art for Banana Rose by Natalie Goldberg. She was educated at DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana, where she graduated in 1969 with a BA in Fine Art. She also studied at Drew University, New Jersey, and at Pratt Printmaking Institute, New York, in 1968 and in 1970 respectively. Her Honors include being an Artist-in-Residence at Yosemite National Park, California, from 2003 to 2004, and representing the US in the Art in the Embassies Program in Zagreb, Croatia. Although she lives with her husband in northern New Mexico, they have sailed the seas. The combination of environments, ocean/desert deeply influences her work. Barbara continues to paint steadily, and have been included in more than 100 exhibitions in museums and galleries. Framed Barbara Zaring art are in great demand due to their high quality and attractiveness. Since 1982, she has shown at the New Gallery, Taos and in Houston, Texas. Her work is generally characterized as expressionistic landscape, but she also does a great deal of abstract work.
