Vyacheslav Zabelin (1935 – 2001) was born in Khamovniki, Moscow. His childhood passed by during the years when his country was engaged in a war against fascist Germany. After the war, he had the opportunity to work in the M.A. Slanov’s studio where one day a famous artist called K.F. Yuon came visiting. The artist liked Zabelin's work and this made him (Zabelin) to be accepted to the Moscow Art School in 1956. Zabelin studied at the Moscow Art School until 1961 when he decided to enroll in the Surikov Institute. The following six year saw him studying under Professor V. Tsyplakov and he obtained his diploma after which he proceeded to get his post-graduate degree. Zabelin was a major supporter of artistic training and education that was deeply rooted in achievement and tradition. He was not fond of "homegrown" or "amateur" art. Zabelin felt that in the absence of a school of training, a self-sufficient manner and attempt to pander to the public replaced it. This could be accompanied by the tendency to draw the attention of amateurs by certain tricks that are always used to hide incompetency. Zabelin was keen to detail and this made him to earn a lot of admiration and respect from his peers and viewers. That’s the reason why ready to hang framed Vyacheslav Zabelin art are popular to date. The Old Russian city of Rostov was his most favorite place to paint. He became a member of the Moscow River School of painters as he highly valued his Russian homeland and the beauty its historic landscape and structures possessed.
