Huntington Witherill (Born 1949) was born in Syracuse, New York. He moved with his family to California in 1953 and began training in classical music. Witherill wanted to become a concert pianist and so in 1953 he entered college as music major. He later became interested in the study of two-dimensional design, inspiring him into a career in fine art photography that began in 1970. Witherill studied photography with such notables as Al Weber, Steve Crouch, Ansel Adams and Wynn Bullocks. His works have been featured in group and more than one hundred solo exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the world since 1975. He works in both color and white & black, which are indicative of his diverse approach to the medium. Witherill’s subjects include botanical still-life, classic landscapes, urban architecture, studies of pop-art, digital imaging and abstracts. He received the “Artist of the Year” award presented by the Center for Photographic Art, Carmel, California. His photographs are maintained in many public art collections including; the US Department of State, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Santa Barbara, CA, the Monterey Museum of Art, Monterey, CA, and Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, NY, and more. Witherill has also continued to teach photography in a variety of institutions and workshop programs throughout the United States, including the Friends of Photography, the University of California, the Oklahoma Arts Institute, the Center for Photographic Art, and the Ansel Adams Gallery among several others. And for those who would like to use his art for interior decoration, there are framed Huntington Witherill art pieces available in art dealerships that are ready for mounting. Witherill now lives on the Monterey Peninsula in Central California.
