Patton Wilson is a member of the American Artist Professional League, the Allied Artists of America, the Washington Society of Landscape Painters and the Society of Tempera Painters. Wilson counts among his influences the Dutch Baroque, the master painters of the Renaissance, and the American realist tradition as well as his wife and son. He paints in egg oil emulsion, oil, egg tempera and casein. Each of these media allows him to interpret ideas in different ways. Wilson begins his painting process by making graphite, color or ink studies resolving the issues of light and composition. His landscape works begin en plein air. He completes some paintings paintings, while others he leaves to act as a base for future development of more complex designs that he finishes later in his studio. He’s a contemporary American artist who paints in the realist tradition. He has received several wards, including Society of Painters in Casein and Acrylic, American Frame Corporation Award, The Grumbacher Gold Medal, Charlotte Kughler Award, The National Casein Painting Competition, Audubon Artists Annual Exhibition, and American Watercolor Society International Exhibition, to mention just a few. His still life paintings are carefully constructed compositions painted from life. He produces his art mainly as framed Patton Wilson art, and in many other finishing options depending on the needs of the clients. His art has been published in Watercolor Magazine, American Artist Magazine, The Virginia Pilot, International Artist, San Francisco Examiner, Pueblo Chieftain and New American Paintings. His approach to subject matter combines a contemporary interpretation to the subject with traditional skills and techniques, giving his paintings a subtle and immediate impact.
