Steven Wilson Art

Steven Wilson is an artist who live and works in Brighton, UK. He has a particular passion for working on album covers because he believes that helps him to create a little piece of history as the album covers are permanent in nature. Wilson looks at a lot of things for inspiration. And he uses anything that is in some way unusual as an interesting starting point on which to base his work. A few examples for him are 70’s rock posters, fantasy art, Indian art, psychedelia, tribal body art, fairgrounds, and circus imagery. He tends to look in flea markets and charity shops and try to find unwanted books and flea markets on such subjects which as reference and inspiration. Wilson also tries to source inspiration from places that he hopes not everyone is using so as to make his work unique. He also keeps his portfolio as varied as possible so the he can be asked to do a variety of work and types of jobs. Experimenting is the creative part of him … he can’t understand how some illustrators seem happy to use the exact same way and style of working for every project … he doesn’t see the creativity in doing so. Some of his clients include Virgin Holidays, Selfridges, Converse, Neiman Marcus, Coke, BBC, Penguin books, LEVI's, The Fader, Sony BMG, Wallpaper magazine, Julien Macdonald, Time Magazine, The New Yorker, Warner music, New York Times, Mastercard, 125 Magazine, Virgin Media, Virgin Atlantic, Robert Plant, and Costa. And some awards he has received include Communications Arts Typography annual winner, DandAD in book, and Creative Reviews Creative futures.
