Jack Wemp (Born 1925) was born in Seattle, Washington. Wemp was a graduate of Olds School of Agriculture in Alberta, where he studied advertising and art at the Art Center School, the Provincial Institute of Technology and Arts, and the California School of Art. At the beginning of the Great Depression, his family moved to Canada (Vancouver). Wemp was born into an artistic family; his parents were talented artist so he began to work on art at a very tender age. He received all the support he needed in his journey to become a professional artist. In high school he also had a professional and gifted artist as an instructor. However, it seemed to him then that art wasn’t a stable career. During his summer vacations, he used to work as a farmhand on a large Half-Diamond-One cattle ranch. He fell in love with this kind of life and decided to join the agricultural college of the University of Alberta, but after 6 months he went overseas to England as a volunteer for service in the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery. At the end of the Second World War ended, Wemp was appointed as a staff artist. As he was working here, his passion to become an artist was ignited. Today framed Jack Wemp art can be seen in many galleries around the world. His work graces the cover of Catalpa Expedition by John Devoy. In 2004, he received The American Artists Professional League Award for Representational Art. Wemp received an award from and was a member of the Salmagundi Art Club in NYC. He was also a member of The Hudson Valley Art Association
