Emily Weil started taking watercolor classes in the 1980s when she lived in Oregon. She currently works and lives in Temescal, Oakland. She holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in Graphic Design from California College of Art & Design. She went ahead and studied watercolor under artist Leigh Hyams. It was in 2008 that Emily stumbled into an art workshop with Leigh Hyams, and felt so attracted and became a devoted follower of her instruction and methods. With Leigh’s guidance Emily expanded beyond the boundaries that she had inhabited for long. Emily currently owns the Red Eye Design In her pieces, her goal is to “go deep” and she enjoys inhabiting “The Zone” which she describes as the inner creative space that usually expresses itself without thinking about it. As she grows as an artist, and takes her artistic expressions more seriously, she finds that painting is becoming as necessary as breathing. She works from her studio which is located in Oakland in the Temescal neighborhood. She has exhibited at many locations including Nomad Cafe, Oakland, James Snidle Fine Arts & Appraisals, Pro Arts East Bay Open Studios, Jco’s Place gallery, Joyce Gordon Gallery, Oakland, Alameda, Bridgehead Studios, Firehouse Gallery North, Berkeley, to name just a few. These exhibitions have made her art to be very popular, especially the framed Emily Weil art. She says that for the paper pieces, she started with pencil, and referring to a photo she’s taken. For her abstract paintings, she enjoys seeing what happens if she work from her feelings and gut rather than working from photos.
