Niro Vasali (Born in 1969) was born in Palermo, Italy. His art reflects the drama and strength that is attributable to his Italian heritage. He was born into a close knit family and spectacular artwork reflects the cultural background of this family. Vasali was named after his grandfather who was his first role model and an avid soccer player. Vasali’s cultural background dominates everything he creates, whether bold abstractions or geometric patterns, in oils or acrylics, on burlap, linen, canvas or paper. He likes to work in contrasts, pitting weak against strong, and in the process, he produces tension at the center of each piece. His relentless passion and strength grew from both the athletic and aesthetic outlooks that shaped his youth. As a child, Vasali was both athletic and artistic, and he says he cannot remember a time when was wasn’t drawing, painting, or playing soccer, and being such active squared up against introspection and created a balance in his life. He asserts that much of his signature style is rooted in this heritage. Vasali decided to move to the U.S., where he attended a college of art. He continued to produce artwork as he was studying and his skills improved and matured. This made him to earn entrance to the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and after graduation, he worked professionally in that city.
