Vincent Van Gogh (30 March 1853 - 29 July 1890) was a renowned Dutch painter who was part of the post-impressionist art movement. His primary medium was oil paint and his subjects included landscapes, cityscapes, scenery, and figure. Gogh forms an integral part of the foundation of modern art, having influenced many modern artists through his art. During his life, he only managed to sell a single piece of his art because then his works weren’t properly publicized. Now, Gogh is regarded as one of the most celebrated artists ever. Unlike many children who show their artistic talents early, Gogh was reserved and never clearly showed his passion for art when he was still a little boy. At the age of 16, he landed a job at Hague-based art gallery. He didn’t derive joy working as an art dealer for the gallery and so he quit to follow in his father’s religious ways. His new found passion landed him a job in Belgium where he worked as a missionary for years. In 1881 while still in Belgium, he started receiving drawing lessons from his cousin. He developed a strong love for art that he traveled back to The Netherlands to practice art. Gogh earned respect for his 1885 “The Potato Eaters” painting, inspiring him to take art studies. He took art lessons at The Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp where he got to see the works of several artists including Rubens and some Japanese painters. Gogh later moved to Paris where he concentrated more on impressionist and postimpressionist art. His main subjects were landscapes and elements of his life. While there he met Paul Gauguin, Monet, and several other renowned artists. Gogh created paintings everyday even during times when he had a mental condition. He later died at the age of 37 out of gunshot wound from an attempted suicide. His brother and best friend Theos was so extremely distraught by his death that he died six months later. Gogh’s art became an instant success after Theos' wife took them to Holland where they were published. Since then, millions across the globe have purchased originals and prints of laminated, unframed and framed Vincent Van Gogh framed art.
