Born in Birmingham, England, Louisa Anne Twamley was an illustrator who was known for her detailed works that were full of colors. For most of her life, she lived on properties around Swansea. She was born to Louisa Ann née Meredith and Thomas Twamley. She often wrote unidentified articles for the Tasmanian press which made her to be known much. This was no new thing for her because in her youth, Louisa had written articles in support of the Chartists. She was mainly educated by her mother. In 1835, she published a volume of poetry which was reviewed favorably by many critics. She published a book titled “Some of My Bush Friends in Tasmania” in 1860. This book contained detailed full-color plates which were printed by the chromolithography process. In 1882 she visited Sydney where Sir Parkes Henry told her that he had appreciated her articles after reading them when he was a youth. After the death of her husband, the Tasmanian government granted her a pension of £100 a year. She had actually married her cousin, Meredith Charles on 18 April 1839 in Birmingham at Old Edgbaston Church. Meredith had immigrated to Tasmania (formerly Van Diemen's Land) in 1821 with his father and the other members of the family. Her art is very popular today, especially the framed Louisa Anne Twamley art which can be seen hanging on the walls of many prestigious buildings around the world. Her art is also found n many galleries and collections around the world.
