Dona Turner was born in Washington DC. She is a Fine Artist and Illustrator. She received most of her training in fine art at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, California and in San Francisco State. It is here Turner learnt to explore the nature of place - the structures and supports that create and maintain our place in time. She feels that in our everyday lives people unknowingly walk across a bottomless pool of happiness. They are separated from it only by the thin ice of dulled perceptions and fears created by their ordinary experiences. With color and imagery Turner intends to move the viewer, for a moment, through that ice and into the realm beyond. For more than 30 years, Ms. Turner has been showing in galleries in Northern California. In 1985 she won Best of Show, Mixed Media in the Pulse of the City Competition by the Jeremy Stone Gallery in San Francisco. Ms. Turner currently shows her colorful and bold pastel works in galleries throughout Northern California. Her work has been licensed for a variety of greeting cards, napkins and home decor items. She has over 60 images published as lithograph prints. Her illustration work also includes toy packaging, children's books in CD ROM and print format, educational posters and textbooks, editorial illustration and illustrations for software products. Ms. Turner also teaches Graphic Design at the University of California Berkeley Extension in San Francisco. Framed Dona Turner art are currently available at art galleries around the Bay Area including the Andrea Schwartz Gallery in San Francisco. She is a member of East Bay Pro Arts, the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, and the Graphic Artists Guild.
