Stanley Tretick (1921 –1999) was a photojournalist who worked for People magazines, Look, and UPI. He was born in Baltimore but grew up in Washington, D.C. He graduated from Central High School in 1940. He has held exhibitions in Frazier International History Museum, Louisville, KY; The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, Dallas; Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center, City of Lake Charles, LA; The University of Texas-Pan American, Edinburg; Dean Lesher Regional Center for the Arts, Bedford Gallery, Walnut Creek, CA; DuSable Museum of African American History, Chicago; The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D. C.; to name a few. Tretick covered all the presidents from Harry S. Truman through George H. W. Bush. He is best known today for John F. Kennedy’s photographs that he took of 1960 campaign and presidency. His photo of a soldier holding his muddy face in his hands and crumpled with despair was selected by Military Times as one of the 100-most-enduring images captured in combat. His Korean War photos were exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in the exhibit "Korea - The Impact of War." This award-winning photographer also published books such as A Very Special President, They Could Not Trust the King, A Portrait of All the President's Men, Let Freedom Ring, and Capturing Camelot. In 1952, the artist moved to United Press, where he covered the White House, Capitol Hill, and the presidential campaigns of the 50s. his photographs are available in a variety of finishing options, with the most popular being the framed Stanley Tretick art which come ready to hang with all the accessories.
