Ann Stookey Art

Ann Stookey was born in Utah and was raised on a farm by her grandmother. She knew at a young age that she would become an artist. She could occupy most of her free time working on her drawings. As a child living on a farm, there were many free hours to fill, and her grandmother encouraged her to draw and paint. Her grandmother also made certain that she had a steady supply of pencils, paints, and paper. Ann spent many enjoyable hours at the kitchen table painting scenes from her imagination while enjoying the warmth of the big wood cook stove in the kitchen. Ann now produces an array of delightful high quality paintings and many fine drawings. She paints landscapes predominantly but also creates some exciting abstract pieces as well. Ann always looks at different methods of creating and presenting images so that the final products are not only unique and attractive but also inspiring. In her quest for inspiration, she travels a lot in search of ghost towns and old hidden mining often finding some residents clinging to the old lifestyle. The inhabitants of these places are a constant inspiration to her as they echo a life that no longer exists. Her goal in each painting is to capture a happy moment in time when a slower paced life allowed for a greater appreciation of the simple pleasures. Ann always tries to invite viewers to step into her paintings, and share a moment of pleasure. She has been a tremendous source of inspiration to many upcoming artists in Utah, and the whole world.
