Karen Stene Art

Karen Stene was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. She was born into a creative family that includes architects, lecturers, opera singers, photographers. The family recognized her artistic talent and encouraged her to develop it an early age. She knew that she would become an artist and worked hard in this line. Today she’s one of the best artists in British Columbia. She uses gold leaf to create a 3D quality and to reflect light. This material pulls the room into her painting and interacts with it. She says that when light enters a room, it is captured by the gold as it moves across the canvas, creating a living elusion as it changes it. All viewers are instantly drawn to the enchantment of gold and there’s nothing like a bit of sparkle to enrich a room. Gold is in plenty in Florence, Italy; it is the epitome of conquering civilizations and past wealth. After her graduation, a career in modeling fueled her love of travel and enabled her to pursue artistic studies and the Emily Corr Art Institute in Vancouver and the Institute d’Allende School of Art in Son Miguel. Karen incorporates architecture with its arches and colonnades, classical furniture, textures and light and marble floors into her work. This is held within the implausible landscapes of rolling vineyards and tropical bays, waterfalls and oceans, cloud formations and sunsets to create a utopia, a piece of art to draw the viewer into the world of Karen’s imaginations and experiences.
